SmartPGM FX Vulnaribilities

The Register has published an article that Tibco’s multicasting software called SmartPGM FX has several remote vulnerabilities.

Hackers can cause denial-of-service attacks according to Information Risk Management (IRM), one of UK’s consultancies.

The consultancy did not reveal details about the flaws since Tibco has not yet released a patch for this problem.

The software also has four buffer-overlaw flaws and a format-string issue.

There is no evidence that show that the bugs were being exploited by hackers.

URI Problem In OS X And Linux

PC World has released an article that the Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) flaw that exists in Windows operating systems may also be present for Mac OS X and Linux operating systems.

The URI technology is used for launching programs in web browsers.

A security researcher at Ernst & Young Global Ltd said that a poorly designed URI protocol registration may allow an attacker to see and access data and applications which he or she does not have permission to.

“There is absolutely a chance that similar issues could exist on those platforms,” said Thomas Kristensen of Secunia about the Linux and Mac OS X platforms.

Microsoft Word Flaw

Various tech sites has reported that the Mac version of Microsoft Word has flaw that can crash a Windows operating system.

‘The discovery continues a trend of vulnerabilities being seen exploited in the wild shortly after patches for them have been released, the so-called “Exploit Wednesday” effect. It seem likely that this apparent link between patches and exploits is largely attributable to the publicity given to vulnerabilities making exploits for them stand out more sharply from the mass of malcode processed by labs every day,’ said a Technical Consultant at Virus Bulletin.
