Quicktime Patch

Apple has recently released a patch for the flaw that was located in their Quicktime multimedia software.

Along with Quicktime, three other applications needed security updates. The other applications are Photoshop, Winamp’s media player, and Trillian which is a software that combines various chat programs. Out of those three, only Trillian has been patched.

The flaw in Winamp is connected on its ability to play MP4 files. In Photoshop, there are two serious vulnerabilities. One of the flaws affects version CS2 and CS3 of Photoshop. The other flaw is about opening malformed PNG files. This affects CS2, CS3, and Elements 5.x.

The update for Quicktime is available for both Mac and Windows operating systems.

Vista Hacks Demonstration

A person named Joanna Rutkowska along with Alex Tereshkin will demonstrate new ways to hack Vista which includes rootkit techniques, defeating encryption on the BitLocker drive, and defeating hardware-based forensics systems at Las Vegas. The event will be called Black Hat Briefings and it will run from July 28 to August 2 this year.

Her training session will be called ‘Understanding Stealth Malware’ and she said “For ethical reasons we want to limit the availability of this course to only ‘legitimate’ companies,” in her blog post.

She is currently in the process of founding a security start-up which will be based in Poland.

She added, “These attacks, of course, work on the fly and do not require system reboot and are not afraid of the TPM/BitLocker protection.”
