According to various tech sites, approximately 35% of new computers downgrade to Windows XP from Windows Vista.
The downgrade occurs either at the factory or the buyer downgrades the system by himself or herself. The study is based on the past six months and on over 3,000 PCs.
Bill Lindner, a writer at infopackets.com notes that “it would be interesting to see a more thorough examination performed.”
The downgrade option is available to those who purchase a Windows Vista Business and Vista Ultimate operating system as well as Vista Enterprise OS.

Finally the truth comes out. This is what I have been saying for over a year now.
Does anyone else not think its odd that if Vista is so great 35% of people go back to XP? Take in mind here these are the people that know downgrading is an option. I’m sure if more people knew they could go back to XP this figure would be higher.
Also let us not forget that Mac sells have increased by over 30% sense Vista came out. In a recent survey I was reading over 90% of new Mac users sited Windows Vista as their reason for going to the Mac.
Vista is Why I got a Macbook.
This doesn’t include all the people who are buying XP versions online and downgrading to XP without going through the traceable channels. I can tell you I’ve done my fair share…
Exactly right. I have also done my fair share of these. I’d say my figures would be more like 60-70% going back to XP or going to Mac.
Wow, ive been really busy and only done one downgrade to xp…. Ive noticed users will freak if you move a shortcut, let alone upgrade an os. These people are just scared to change their cpu set up and theyve been fed lies about vista by apple fan boys and i.t. techs who dont want to learn a new system. Not trying to be negative, but we are very busy with fixing xp machines, even have 2 macs in the shop right now, but no vista issues lately, and very few since it came out.

“These people are just scared to change their cpu set up and theyve been fed lies about vista by apple fan boys and i.t. techs who dont want to learn a new system.”
You are wrong. Vista got a bad rep because it earned it. Apple fanboys could care less about Vista because they already know their OS is far better.
I do hear your exact remarks very often though. From Vista fans who try to defend it and gamers. The facts don’t lie, Vista is more bloated, more resource hungry, less stable , and slower than XP. These are the same flaws Norton products have and why real techies avoid them and recommend against them.
The fact is there are much better choices out there than Vista. We have XP SP3, Ubuntu, and OS X. Any and all of these are better than Vista.
Do we have to work on it? Yes, because its coming on new systems. Do we have to put it on our computers? NO. Do we have to act like its a good product? No.
Is vista anyworse off than xp was when it was new, or sp2 for xp when it came out though?? I guess all I have to say is look how many apps there are for windows, and how many different cpus run windows. I think its amazing that a product that widespread works as well as it does. Im sure if apple had those stats, it would have its share of issues as well. While i agree that vista isnt much faster than xp, I’d say its not slower in my experience with gaming and other intensive programs.
I do respect your opinion on vista as well, being your intelligent and have used it. I guess i’m just bugged by all the msft bashing by people who havent even tried vista yet.
Actually I’ll agree with most of what you said above. Vista has come up a lot sense SP1. Its still not up to XP but XP has two service packs and 6 years on it. Maybe after another SP Vista will be on par or better than XP.
“I think its amazing that a product that widespread works as well as it does. Im sure if apple had those stats, it would have its share of issues as well.”
I completely agree with this statement. Thats one major reason why OS X is as good as it is, because Apple keeps tight control over what it goes on. Also the more popular Apple gets the less secure it will be IMO.
